Citrix Workspace app for macOS has long worked on Macs with Apple Silicon, but it required the machine to have Rosetta-2. We heard often from customers who wanted Citrix Workspace app to be natively supported on Macs with Apple Silicon. We have been working on this for a while now, and I’m pleased to announce general availability of native support of Citrix Workspace app for macOS 2210 on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 series)!

Improved Performance on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 Series)

Our lab tests have shown better performance from Citrix Workspace app when it runs natively, compared to when it uses Rosetta-2 on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 series). CPU usage was about 50 percent less, and graphics performance improved. For a monitor with resolution of 3840 x 2160, we saw and an improvement of more than 10 FPS with Citrix Workspace app running natively on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 series).

Auto Updates

Citrix Workspace app for macOS is capable of automatically updating when the latest version is available. For this to happen, though, you must select, “Automatically keep Workspace app up to date” in the “Advanced” section of the “Preference” pop-up. Remember to choose “Apple Silicon” from the dropdown menu of the “Select Intel or Apple Silicon” build so your machine gets updates meant for M1 Macs only.

You can also switch between “Intel” build and “Silicon” builds by simply selecting the appropriate type of build from the dropdown of “Select Intel or Apple Silicon build” in the “Advanced” section of “Preferences” pop-up. So, don’t worry about changing your mind after opting for a certain build. Switching build types is just a matter of one click!

Please note, the options available in the “Preference” pop-up can be disabled or enabled by your IT admin based on your company’s IT policies. Please consult your IT department if some Preference options are disabled for you.
