Linux-based devices have become more widespread as more people work remotely. From thin clients to Raspberry Pis, Citrix is committed to bringing the latest feature enhancements to all devices.
With this in mind, we are excited to announce the release of Citrix Workspace app for Linux 2103, which includes several new features to simplify admin management and improve the user experience. Let’s take a look!
With this release, we have increased virtual channel capacity from 32 to 64, which means customers and partners can add more custom virtual channels for virtual apps and desktops. This also enables them to leverage additional software to improve the user experience. We now have more virtual channels to allow for apps like Zoom, Webex, and Microsoft Teams to coexist together in organizations’ environments.
We have also enhanced the experience for users who leverage multi-monitor setups through screen pinning. Users can now choose which monitor to launch their virtual desktop on through a GUI found under the Workspace icon in the toolbar. This feature improves productivity for users, especially financial traders with multiple desktops who can now easily launch virtual desktops with the layout they prefer and retain it every time.
The animation below showcases this feature in action:
Take a closer look at the GUI for the screen pinning feature:
When you click on the Desktop icon inside the Citrix Workspace app, the “Screen Layout” option should already be in Favorites:
The Screen Layout option enables users to set and reset the screen sizes of their workstations. The boxes that link to the monitor are different sizes corresponding to the resolution of the monitors. This feature saves layout preferences into the Workspace preferences, enabling users to roam to various locations but with the same setup and same layout available anywhere. This feature improves the experience on multi-monitor experience for users and allow them to use multiple monitors with ease.
We have also added exciting new functionality to our releases that rolled out earlier in the year. For Citrix Workspace app for Linux 2012 and 2101, we introduced a security feature called App Protection in experimental mode. The support is for Debian and Tarball packages only. Now with the Citrix Workspace app, you can protect your apps and desktops against screenshotting and keylogging capabilities. Any apps that could have screenshots taken of them will come out as a black screen.
The Tarball package will have the below option while installing App protection components:
For Debian packages, during installation, the pop-up below appears (click image to view larger):
There is also an option of silent installation for Debian packages. The App Protection feature is currently in experimental mode.
We are just getting started with our additions to Citrix Workspace app for Linux. Keep an eye out for more interesting features coming soon and enjoy the power of using thin clients with Citrix.
