Effective collaboration is more essential now than ever. Setting up a virtual call has replaced casual water cooler chat, and team meetings have turned into conversations over webcams. We’re sitting in our homes needing to collaborate, and having this connection is essential. We also know IT admins have been working tirelessly to make sure their users can collaborate with ease.
Citrix Optimization for Microsoft Teams on Windows helped to fuel this collaboration for the newly distributed workforce. But for admins wondering about their users on Linux-based thin clients, the wait is over!
Citrix is excited to announce HDX Optimization for Microsoft Teams — with audio, video and screen sharing support — is now available in Citrix Workspace app for Linux 2006! This release continues our momentum of fueling employee productivity, while also giving IT admins the security and control of a virtual environment
Take a look at our showcase video of this new functionality in action:
How to Get Started
Supported on devices with x64 architecture platforms, this functionality has been highly sought after by admins. Because Microsoft Teams is optimized for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, you can expect call quality to be as high as if it were running natively on the endpoint.
To ensure that the optimization will work within your environment, you must make sure your Linux endpoint has libc++-9.0 or later and Gstreamer 1.0 or later or Cairo 2.
The following image shows the architecture of MS Teams Optimization with Citrix.
You’ll also need to make sure the optimization works correctly on your VDA so you can deliver the best possible experience for your users. To do this on your Linux endpoint, open the Citrix Workspace app, go to your profile, then click on About. A message like the one below should be on your screen and will let you know if Teams has been optimized.
This feature also supports Audio conferences where multiple users can be added to one call.
To see if Microsoft Teams Optimization is working on the VDA side, go to the terminal outside the Workspace app and type this command:
ps -ef | grep HDX -i
You should see output similar to this sample:
abcde 29643 776 4 14:58 tty1 00:01:35 /opt/Citrix/ICAClient//util/HDXTeams
Every new session launch with MS Teams running will create a log folder inside /tmp/webrpc/ for your reference.
