We wrapped up our 2019 Ask the Cloud Experts (ACE) Meetup series with a presentation from Craig Tylek, Emerging Products Architect, on Citrix Endpoint Management. Below you’ll find the questions and their corresponding answers from the December meetup. You can also access the full recording along with the library of past ACE Meetups at the bottom of the ACE Meetup registration page.
What are the benefits for Citrix Endpoint Management on cloud compared to on-prem versions?
I can think of three main advantages. To start, infrastructure maintenance tasks for admins that are very time consuming on premises are transparent for them on the cloud. So, basically, they will focus on what’s really important — the users and their devices and apps. The second advantage is that the cloud version will have all the latest features while on-premises version won’t. Finally, you don’t need a DR because high availability is managed by our cloud, so you don’t have to worry about your mobile availability.
We had an incident some months ago where a mobile phone was stolen. How can Citrix help to secure my corporate data on mobile devices?
In this situation ,Citrix Endpoint Management will help you to protect corporate resources with micro-VPN capabilities, so users won’t have access to internal networks. And, in your example, you will be able to track your stolen device, lock it, and wipe data for one specific application (a selective wipe) under MAM (BYOD) or even remove all device data if it’s MDM.
How is Citrix aligned with Apple’s and Google’s new requirements?
We are aligned to both Apple’s and Google’s latest changes, even as they are continue to add more features to improve user experience and security. This is why Citrix Endpoint Management is now integrated with Android Enterprise — Google was deprecating some APIs and adding big encryption capabilities on their own OS. In early 2020, we will add Apple user enrollment, integrated with the new Apple Business Manager, as well.
I’m involved in a company merger. How can Citrix Endpoint Management help with mobile users?
This is actually one of the key benefits of Citrix Endpoint Management. You will be able to manage all mobile devices, apps, and data for the different companies on one console. Even user access can be seamless through single sign-on on their current AD account by adding Cloud Connectors to connect with our Cloud platform on each company domain.
My iOS users need to check in at work within our application without action from the user, for example while driving. How could we achieve this?
With Citrix Endpoint Management, you are flexible in that you can balance security vs. user experience to adapt to your needs. So, in your situation, you could extend online authentication to enhance the user experience. This means that users will need to enter their AD password or PIN once every week or once every month. But this doesn’t mean that you are not adding security. You’ll be able set up TouchID or FaceID for offline authentication.
I am a current XenMobile on-prem customer. Can I migrate seamlessly to the Citrix Endpoint Management service in the cloud with the least impact to my users and make use of all the latest features Citrix has to offer?
Yes, of course you can! Our engineering team has developed a seamless migration option without the need for user to re-enroll. You can migrate and test at your own speed, and we have a dedicated migration team that assists and guides you during this migration so your end users won’t even be affected.
Our organization is looking into extending and rethinking our mobile strategy and wants to included devices that run on Mac OS and Windows10. Does Citrix’s UEM solution support these platforms?
Yes, Citrix Endpoint Management is a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solution that supports Mac OS and Windows 10 through modern management. We also support ChromeOS, so you may also want to consider these in your redesign of your strategy.
We have line-of-business applications for iOS and Android that are in-house developed and maintained, but they need secure access to a internal back-end resource. Can Citrix Endpoint Management help us to address this requirement?
Citrix Endpoint Management can help you with this in several ways. First, we have a multi MAM strategy that includes supporting the platform capabilities like Android Enterprise and per-app-vpn. This combination with the Citrix SSO app and Citrix Gateway gives you the option to provide access to internal resources for every LOB or public app. Additionally, we have our Citrix MAM, which includes mVPN and Citrix Gateway technology that adds an extra communication layer of security to the LOB application. This can be included in your LOB application by SDK or with our wrapping service.
How do you stack up to the competition?
We can discuss this for hours and go into the nitty-gritty details. But we recommend that you look at the latest analyst reports. You’ll that Citrix Endpoint Management is a leader in the Forrester Wave and the Gartner Magic Quadrant for UEM.
Can I get a free trial of Citrix Endpoint Management?
Anyone can easily request a free Citrix Endpoint Management trial. Just go cloud.citrix.com and sign in with your Citrix Cloud account. If you don’t have one, you can sign up for free and request a trial in our cloud portal. You could also contact your local Citrix sales contact to assist you.
What about security and compliance in general?
With internal and external threats looming around every corner, a UEM solution in combination with a mobile threat defense (MTD) is a no-brainer. Citrix Endpoint Management integrates with industry leading MTD vendors like Zimperium, Check Point, Wandera, Symantec, and more. In extension of this, the zero-trust security model is key for you to continuously assess risk and compliance of the user, device, connection, and the apps used before you grant the right access to corporate data and services.
