More and more businesses are adopting cloud computing technologies to take advantage of benefits such as increased efficiency, cost effectiveness, scalability, and reliability. Recently, Aria implemented a migration of their application and web server workloads from its on-prem global data centers (U.S., EMEA, and APAC) to the AWS public cloud. An important requirement was to carry out the move in a way that was completely transparent to application users. And they had to maintain an awesome user experience while simultaneously deploying a robust security.
To satisfy the extra security requirement, Aria implemented Citrix Web App Firewall (WAF) in AWS. Citrix WAF protects Aria’s AWS apps from the OWASP Top 10 security threats, including SQL injection, cross site scripting, buffer overflow, and provides them signatures against emerging threats.
Citrix ADC: The Linchpin of App Infrastructure
Aria Systems considers Citrix ADC to be the linchpin of its app infrastructure. Existing on-prem data centers included ADC VPX virtual application delivery controllers at multiple locations. With the move to the cloud, Aria took advantage of AWS CloudFormation templates to provision ADC VPX instances in the AWS cloud. This significantly reduced the number of steps for setup and configuration.
Other aspects of Citrix ADC also ensured a smooth migration. One example is Citrix ADC’s software-first approach, which seamlessly provides load balancing, security, and acceleration for applications across any form factor – physical or virtual. Citrix ADC’s pooled capacity licensing allowed Aria to share ADC throughput capacity across all ADC form factors and enable the seamless transition to cloud infrastructure. Lastly, Citrix ADC technology uses the same code base across hardware, virtual, and container environments for a flexible, consistent, easy-to-manage solution.
