Public cloud spending is on the rise and SaaS currently constitutes the largest cloud computing spend. It shows no signs of slowing. This presents new challenges with your network, however, further congesting bandwidth-constrained links like legacy MPLS between branches and the data center.
Local internet breakout improves the user experience you can deliver in the branch and reduces bandwidth costs, but exposing the network to the internet requires security. This is costly to deploy in branches. In order to support local internet breakout, you’ll need a new security approach — one that doesn’t require supporting and managing security stacks at branch offices.
A centralized approach to securing local breakout provides advantages including eliminating the overhead of security at your branches and policy enforcement for users working in remote locations. With Citrix SD-WAN in your branches reliably routing all internet traffic to a secure web gateway in the cloud, you can eliminate costly infrastructure and protect your network from threats and vulnerabilities.
When it comes to the cloud, Citrix has teamed up with Zscaler, an industry leader in security, to provide a better approach to branch networking. Citrix SD-WAN can identify and classify more than 4,000 applications in real time, including SaaS apps and individual Office 365 apps. Zscaler’s Cloud Security Platform makes security simple for IT by inspecting all internet-bound traffic from a cloud service close to where your users connect.
This week at Zscaler Zenith Live 2018 in London, we announced Citrix SD-WAN’s new support for Zscaler APIs. This support provides automation for fast configuration of IPsec tunnels to Zscaler’s Cloud Security service. A more dynamic, secure and fast connection over the last mile is delivered by SD-WAN. The Zscaler API provides the two closest data center locations to each branch, allowing SD-WAN to steer traffic effectively. If one link goes down, the secondary active link provides seamless high availability, ensuring no disruption or security breach. API integration with Zscaler will be available in Citrix SD-WAN this quarter.
The benefits of the joint solution from Citrix SD-WAN and Zscaler include:
• Faster adoption of SaaS and cloud in a distributed enterprise.
• Improved user experience by reducing latency from backhauling SaaS traffic.
• Elimination of costly security stacks at branches.
• Simplified IT management with automated connectivity to a secure web gateway.
• Assurance that internet-bound traffic is always secure.
