Before we started working with Citrix, we at WAGO Kontakttechnik were facing a new challenge: We had to develop our IT systems to be more flexible and meet the needs of ever changing tasks. Our IT infrastructure had to be built from the ground up to allow us to react fast and reliably when it comes to the expansion of new business areas. At the same time, we wanted to make sure we would never abandon our IT security. Together with Citrix, we were able to pull off this difficult balancing act.

WAGO is a German company with a long tradition and the world’s leading provider of electrical connections via spring terminals for more than 60 years. Our company develops groundbreaking products in the areas of automation technology, interface electronics for industry, the energy and transport sector as well as process and building automation. In addition to several offices in Germany and around the world, our headquarters are based in the northeast of North-Rhine Westphalia in the city of Minden.

Flexible solutions are crucial to our success

We have been working with Citrix for 15 years now. They provide us with Cloud solutions that allow us to share applications and data securely with more than 8,000 employees in 33 countries around the world. Citrix is now an indispensable global business partner, thanks to whom we are able to grow fast and expand into new countries based on needs. When planning to implement new solutions and systems in the past, we needed months just for the acquisition and the launch. Today, with Citrix Cloud solutions, we are able to set up a data farm within days and start training users immediately. Our steady business growth has had a positive impact on this change because we can adapt flexibly to changing customer behavior.

Proud of our responsible company policy

There are two things about our company policy that we are particularly proud of: On the one hand, we want to work as sustainably as possible. This is why our headquarters in Minden pursues a consistently sustainable approach that uses WAGO’s own technology for intelligent air conditioning and lighting. Our headquarters has a specifically designed room concept and lecture and workshop facilities ranging in size for groups up to 400 people. Geothermal probes and heat pumps ensure energy efficient and careful use of resources. We take a holistic approach to ecological use of resources by ensuring that all aspects, from wastewater disposal to the use of biodegradable coffee cups, are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Such a modern company policy is not only meant to benefit the environment, but also our employees. At WAGO, we strive to constantly strengthen our international network within the company and thus also the network of our employees. We might not have facilities in London or Berlin, but thanks to cloud applications, we can offer our employees an extremely flexible and modern workplace. We are also firmly convinced that such comfortable working conditions will attract new talents.

Winning the Citrix Innovation Award in 2018 put the cherry on top of our successful and productive collaboration. Citrix presents this award to customers who use its technology in an innovative and forward-thinking way. By doings this, these customers are changing their industries and opening up new business opportunities.

After gaining my first IT impressions at Wincor Nixdorf at the end of the last millennium, my IT career began in 2002 with a local provider KKFnet in East Westphalia. KKFnet was a Germany-wide provider for SDSL lines and I was able to learn a lot, which was the deep technical foundation for me. In 2003 I changed as a project manager and system specialist to an Internet provider Brodnet in Hamburg where I was responsible for the nationwide SDSL roll out. In 2004 I changed to WAGO where I was initially responsible for the networks. Later, a development team was set up to develop the topic Citrix, among other things. In 2011 I took over the responsibility for the Service Desk and thus the IT workplace at WAGO. Since September 2008, I have also been responsible for information security as Corporate Information Security Manager, which is a very exciting area for me.  I love the daily variety as well as the constant challenge of new technologies.

Privately I find the balance with my family and the nature which inspires me every day anew.
