We are extremely pleased to announce that Citrix App Layering User Layer for VDI is generally available!
Our latest monthly installment of Citrix App Layering provides the much anticipated Persistence many of you have been waiting for. User Layer for Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit is now Generally Available.
What is the User Personalization Layer?
All desktop settings, user customizations, and other changes are stored in a writable virtual disk that is attached to the virtual machine when the end user logs in.
What does this mean for IT administrators?
With User Layer IT administrators can provide a fully persistent environment to end users while utilizing floating pools, providing cost savings.
What does this mean for the end user?
This means any changes that the user is allowed to make including profile settings, things like Office plugins, and other user installed applications are all captured and maintained, even through image updates. So items such as a Go-To-Meeting client, an online launcher, or even Skype can be installed by the end user, and maintained through OS and Image updates.
Additionally, this release contains enhancements in several more key areas:
Performance: Up to 40% performance improvement in end user login times when using Elastic Layers.
Platform Support: In this release we have added support for vSphere vCenter 6.7.
Usability: It is now even easier to publish Layered Images when creating or editing your Templates.
