SiemensPLM Software’s Solid Edge®ST8 is Citrix Ready

SiemensPLM Software’s Solid Edge®ST8

Citrix manufacturing IT solutions empower automakers, consumer goods, chemical, aerospace and defense manufacturers with innovative cloud computing, workforce mobility and desktop virtualization technologies that help them stay competitive in the new era.

In this context, I am pleased to announce Siemens Solid Edge ST8 is now Citrix Ready for latest version of Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp. Solid Edge ST8 delivers a uniquely powerful and accessible 3D design portfolio, combined with a superior user experience, enabling the freedom to design without boundaries.

This is a very powerful and highly productive application for mechanical engineers to design accurately and faster with greater flexibility. Working real-time with multiple designers on the same prototype becomes easy with use of Citrix XenDesktop backed by Citrix XenServer empowered with NVIDIA GRID cards, which is a typical deployment scenario (Other virtualization platforms supported for XenDesktop include AWS (Amazon Web Services), VMware vSphere / ESXi, Citrix CloudPlatform and Microsoft Hyper-V).

What is Citrix XenDesktop and HDX 3D pro?

Citrix XenDesktop and HDX 3D pro enable secure, real-time, remote collaboration on design data with stunning performance by centrally hosting 3D apps and data. HDX is a collection of technologies underlying what makes Citrix the master at delivering graphics-intensive 3D applications with unparalleled focus on user experience with wide peripheral support (e.g. 3D Space mouse and Wacom tablets) for a range of mobile and end-clients (including Apple Macs, Linux as well as Windows), read more here .

Solid Edge uses the Parasolid geometric kernel, also used by a wide range of CAD/CAE/CAM vendors such as Bentley MicroStation, Siemens NX, Dassault SolidWorks, Femap, Ansys Workbench, Delcam, Missler TopSolid, Onshape and many others. As such, it is an application that handles complex imported parts and assemblies, rapid instancing, tolerant geometry and heavyweight geometries including surfacing and NURBS.

Solid Edge implements and unifies both history and direct modelling via Siemens Synchronous Modelling Technologies. Direct modelling (history free modelling) is highly-interactive, allowing users to push and pull faces dynamically and as such one of the most demanding modelling paradigms to virtualize. Direct modelling is a CAD method that allows designers to interact directly with the geometry of the model. As such Solid Edge users and their interactive workflows for uses such as sheet metal modelling and bending benefit most from the HDX technologies that can provide a better than local workstation experience.

Siemens PLM first introduced Synchronous Technology to Solid Edge, later expanding its usage into Siemens NX. Siemens NX and TeamCenter are already verified for use with XenApp and XenDesktop.

What does it mean to be Citrix Ready?

Interoperability among software is often a key factor for customers before making a purchase decision. Citrix Ready verification provides that assurance. For 3D ISV applications, partners can validate their applications using our self-verification test kit, available at our Citrix Ready Test page to obtain Citrix Ready status. The test kit includes standard interoperability tests and also minimum FPS requirements needed for a good user experience. These are published on the Citrix Ready Marketplace which is the one stop platform for customers to browse Citrix Ready verified solutions across Citrix products and partner product categories.
