Citrix to Provide General Dynamics and WIN-T Increment 1 with Satellite Bandwidth Optimization Capabilities
Citrix WANScaler to Ensure Real-Time Warfighter Access to Global Information Grid
Bethesda, Md. » 6/24/2009 » Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTXS) announced today that it has supplied General Dynamics with over 1,500 Citrix® WANScaler units that will be used to help optimize satellite bandwidth for the U.S. Army and its WIN-T (Warfighter Information Network-Tactical) initiative. WIN-T is the Armys on-the-move, high-speed, high-capacity backbone communications network which links warfighters on the battlefield with the Global Information Grid (GIG).
With Citrix WANScaler, the Army has an appliance that supports the Space Communication Protocol Standards (SCPS) and uses flow control capabilities to ensure that data and applications are delivered seamlessly, with no latency issues, to the end-user. Citrix WANScaler helps the Army meet one of the goals of helping the CIO G-6s 500 day plan, which is the delivery of seamless LandWarNet to soldiers. LandWarNet is the Armys information capabilities, associated processes, and personnel for collecting, processing, storing, disseminating, and managing information for supporting warfighters, policy makers, and support personnel.
This solution enables the Army to provide its forward-deployed soldiers with real-time applications and information via their existing tactical networks, said Tom Simmons, area vice president for Citrix Federal. Were proud and honored to support the mission of WIN-T and the warfighters it serves.
WIN-T is a critical enabler of LandWarNet, the Armys part of GIG that includes all Army networks. WIN-T introduces a mobile, ad-hoc, self-configuring and self-healing network using satellite on-the-move capabilities, robust network management and high-bandwidth radio systems to keep mobile forces connected, communicating and synchronized.
Citrix WANScaler brings to WIN-T a best-in-class application delivery for remote locations and a WAN optimization solution that improves the performance of applications to end users by 5x to 30x or more, while substantially improving productivity and reducing the cost of delivering those applications.
Simmons says the Citrix WANScaler offering for WIN-T is optimized specifically around the Department of Defense network and allows like devices to communicate using SCPS.
Citrix WANScaler is part of Citrix Branch Repeater product family, a solution that accelerates the delivery of virtualized applications to users in branch offices and enables consolidation of the servers that provide essential services in the branch office.
